The Jacmel Children Center

Yoga Ventures Founder Lisa Rueff and her husband Philip Schneider are building a 13,000 square foot home, community center and Montessori school in Jacmel, Haiti for orphaned children: a place to sleep, eat, attend classes, pray and be loved. Our hope is the center will become a hub in the Jacmel community for giving children the opportunity for a brighter future, providing education, art, refuge, faith and love. We partnered with Bonite Affriany, a local community leader who serves food and educates over 275 children everyday – some walking over an hour to reach her center for one square meal. She provides them nourishment, education, faith and love…but must send them back to their tents and to the streets every day.

The Art Creation Foundation For Children

Art Creation Foundation For Children is a non-profit arts organization created for education and personal growth of children in need in Jacmel, Haiti. We teach street children art so they may have a future. Our children have been selected based on specific criteria. All of the children were between 6 and 11 when enrolled; they had never attended school nor did they eat on a regular basis. Many children are orphaned and destined to a life on the streets. The children who are blessed with family are still living a life of severe poverty that should not exist in a world as advanced as ours. Knowing these children now have an opportunity for a better life, an education, consistent supply of food and medical care is an overwhelming relief to the children. Children achieve self-sufficiency via the arts and education as well as internalize a sense of social responsibility, community and connectedness.

Buddha Smile School

We believe that primary education is the first step in breaking the endemic cycle of poverty and caste-based discrimination. At Buddha’s Smile School (BSS), ‘untouchable’ children are not just educated – they are taught to dream. Here, in a structured and caring learning environment, children not only learn, but discover that they are not condemned to walk in their parent’s footsteps, that the shackles can be broken. Buddha’s Smile School (BSS) serves children from local slums and villages in north India, delivering primary education with love, care, and motivation since 2003.  We understand that education goes beyond classroom learning, requiring play and discovery. We teach music, crafts, and drawing and offer short summer courses in dance for the students to discover and develop their talents. Unlike typical schools in India, we foster an atmosphere of love, kindness, and healing.

Amigos De Santa Cruz

The mission of Amigos de Santa Cruz in Guatemala is to help improve the lives of the indigenous people of Santa Cruz la Laguna and surrounding villages through support for education, better health, a cleaner environment and sustainable economic development. What started out in 1998 as an effort to help support education by providing the local school with needed books and supplies, has grown organically over the years along with the children that we first served. Amigos efforts have followed the needs presented to us by the community. Today Amigos has a local staff of 18, many of whom are graduates of our higher education scholarship program.   They are now models for other younger students, and they are our future leaders.   What make Amigos unique is that we have chosen to focus on the rural communities that make up Santa Cruz La Laguna, a total population of about 6,000, rather than spreading our resources out to a farther reach. We are participating in a generational change in our villages that is powerful. We  are watching what can happen when a generation becomes educated for the first time.

Bali Children’s Project

The Bali Children’s Project (BCP) is dedicated to improving life through education. For almost twenty years we have reached out to young people and their families in rural Bali, not least in mountain communities beyond the economic benefits of tourism. BCP was founded on the belief that as children are empowered to realize their potential, they will enrich their villages and contribute to the world we all share. By providing opportunities for education, we are giving children the chance for a better tomorrow. We are acutely conscious of Bali’s unique cultural heritage, and the need to safeguard it from questionable outside influences that accompany mass tourism.  BCP programs are designed to integrate the demands of economic progress with the island’s traditional values.

Casa De Milagros

The purpose of Casa De Milagros is to nourish the mind, body and spirit of orphaned children and instill in them a sense of self-esteem and self-worth.Our orphanage is a unique healing home where we encourage growth by providing the children with proper health, a good education, art, and recreational and social activities. At Casa de Milagros the children and adults live as a single family, in an atmosphere filled with love and creativity. Living within a cooperative environment all of our children learn how to manage interpersonal relationships, respect each other, and use non-offensive verbal communication. We are a home where children can be children.
